Your mission:

The Head of Pipeline Project is responsible for the successful planning, execution, and delivery of large-scale pipeline projects, ensuring compliance with technical specifications, safety standards, budget constraints, and timelines. This leadership role oversees multidisciplinary teams, manages stakeholder relationships, and directs all phases of pipeline design, construction, and commissioning.  The incumbent has to manage and deliver effective project execution support to Ore Slurry Pipeline Replacement Program to ensure projects deliverables are met safely, with quality, on time and within budget.
Your profile :
  • You have strong background in the supervision of technical personnel, project controls, quality control, budgets and cost control, and administration;
  • You demonstrated ability to manage large teams and complex, high-value projects;
  • High level of analytical thinking and problem-solving;
  • Ability to influence and lead across cross-functional teams;
  • You have In-depth knowledge of pipeline engineering, construction practices, regulatory codes, and right-of-way issues;
  • Proficiency in project management tools – MS Project and solid understanding of GIS systems, AutoCAD, and pipeline simulation software;
  • Familiar with budgeting, cost estimation, and earned value management (EVM);
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with a focus on continuous improvement – Fluency in English and French;
  • You have 10 years of progressive experience in pipeline project management, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role;
  • You have an engineering degree in mechanical, civil or pipeline engineering.
Position Specific Accountabilities


Project Leadership & Execution

  • Direct the integration of project activities throughout the lifecycle of the Program, such as, to ensure the engineering and procurement due diligence and deliverables are met in time for the field execution team to complete the construction activities safely, on schedule, on budget and with quality. Ensure a thorough understanding of the client’s needs through a close relationship with the Area Superintendents, Managers or any other direct or indirect client to the Program
  • Lead end-to-end execution of pipeline projects, including design, procurement, construction, and handover.
  • Define project scope, deliverables, budgets, and performance metrics.
  • Develop and enforce project plans, schedules, and quality control systems.
  • Manage expectations – ensure that clear and achievable timelines are provided to the subordinates and the clients
  • Manage relationships effectively – partnerships with outside service providers are managed productively yielding strong synergies and successful outcomes
  • Ensure a rigorous Management of Change Process is adhered to and that all changes are captured, approved and executed to Ambatovy standards
 

Team & Stakeholder Management

  • Lead a team of Project Engineers, supervisors and consultants to successfully accomplish the Program deliverables as will be detailed in the Project Management Framework 
  • Direct and coordinate the activities of project managers, engineers, field supervisors, and contractors.
  • Liaise with internal departments, regulatory agencies, landowners, and external stakeholders.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for technical, contractual, and schedule-related issues.
  • Manage team workload effectively - ensure workload is well balanced and clearly understood across the team
  • Provide mentorship, guidance and coaching, leading to the growth and development of department employees

Technical Oversight

  • Oversee the design and engineering of pipeline systems, ensuring technical integrity and compliance with applicable codes (e.g. ASME, API, ….).
  • Approve construction methodologies, route selection, material specs, and testing protocols.

Financial & Risk Management

  • Manage multi-million-dollar budgets; monitor cost performance and mitigate overruns.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Approve procurement strategies, vendor selection, and contract negotiations.

Regulatory & Safety Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety standards across all project sites.
  • Implement and monitor HSE plans in collaboration with field safety teams.
  • Ensure that all documentation is maintained to support company policies, procedures and ISO 9001 requirements, and that all engineering documentation is appropriately filed and archived
  • Ensure that all site and government safety, health and environmental procedures and standards are followed by engineering personnel and subcontractors. Maintain close collaboration with the HSE department to ensure all department workers are trained in safety and environment matters
