The Role
Technically competent in several (more than one) different but allied technologies (e.g. process, chemical, control engineering but not electrical engineering). Carry out troubleshooting, analysis of data, formulate action plans to modify or improve existing procedures and technical instructions without technical supervision or oversight. The Senior Engineer is entirely autonomous within several technical areas and is authorized as competent within those areas. Independent decision-making may occasionally be permitted outside the named area of competence without express permission of the Senior/Lead Engineer/Technical Authority but informing them of such for review at their discretion. May lead small to medium sized direct report teams.
The Responsibilities
- Autonomous engineering tasks within several related areas of competence (mechanical, process, piping, instrumentation, etc.)
- Supervise small teams of cross-functional staff
- Direct leadership/oversight of staff (training, guidance, task, and target setting)
- Checking finalized work carried out by Engineering Technician/Technologist, Assistant Engineer and Engineer prior to submission to the Lead/Superintendent for approval.
- Standing in for the Lead/Superintendent during his/her absence (with prior delegation of the Leader Once Removed)
- An Engineering degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree) or equivalent from a recognized University
- Working knowledge and implementation of international standards (ASTM, NACE, ISO, DNV etc.)
- Accredited or eligible for accreditation as a Chartered/Professional Engineer (I.Chem.E., IOMMM, P.Eng, PE etc.)
- Approved member of a technical society
- Previous experience within nickel, cobalt, zinc, or copper process plants is ideal.
- Solvent extraction and pressure oxidation processes are essential
- Expectation is that Senior Engineer shall have at least 7-10 years’ technical experience, preferably in an industrial environment / hydrometallurgical process is essential.
- Has a minimum of 3 years’ experience in maintenance or operations troubleshooting?
- Has held positions of accountability in major shutdowns or in the management of greenfield and brownfield projects
- Highest desirable personal behavioral characteristics conducive to leading multidisciplinary teams.
- Wide technical experience within the specified discipline and associated disciplines
- High level of personal and team organization (planning and ability to intuitively anticipate problems and put in place timely and appropriate solutions)
- Ability to set tasks and ensure favorable outcomes by personal planned intervention.
